Istat said Wednesday that its
seasonally adjusted index for retail sales in Italy dropped by
0.5% in March with respect to February both value and volume
terms.
The national statistics agency said sales were down both for
food goods (-0.5% in value and -0.9% in volume) and non-food
ones (-0.3% and -0.4% respectively).
It said retail sales were down by 2.8% in value and 4.2% in
volume with respect to March 2024.
"In March 2025, all distribution channels experienced
year-on-year declines," Istat said.
"Large-scale distribution contracted by 2.6%, small-scale
distribution fell by 3.1% and non-store retail sales declined by
4.7%.
"Likewise, online sales were down 1.3% compared to March 2024,
marking the third consecutive decline".
