A 35-year-old prisoner committed
suicide by throwing himself from the Duomo of Milan on Sunday
after allegedly killing a woman he worked with in a job he was
doing during day release in a case that has caused considerable
shock in Italy.
The body of Emanuele De Maria's alleged victim, Chamila
Wijesuriyauna, a 50-year-old of Sri Lankan origin who had been
missing since Friday, was found in a park pond on Sunday.
Video surveillance cameras had captured the pair walking in the
area where the woman's body was found.
She had two stab wounds on her throat and injuries on her
wrists.
De Maria was being held in Bollate prison for murdering a woman
in Castel Volturno, in the province of Caserta, in 2016.
