Pope Leo XIV committed to
strengthening ties between the Catholic Church and Jews in a
message to the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Riccardo Di Segni, following
his election at the conclave last week, the Italian capital's
Jewish community said in a statement on Tuesday.
In the message informing Di Segni of his election, Leo pledged
"to continue and strengthen the dialogue and cooperation of the
Church with the Jewish people in the spirit of the Nostra aetate
declaration of the Second Vatican Council", the statement said.
It added that the rabbi would attend Leo's inauguration in St
Peter's Square on Sunday and "welcomed with satisfaction and
gratitude the words addressed to him by the new pope".
