The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, attended the opening Gala of the B7 Summit under Canadian chairmanship, organised by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Confindustries or equivalent business associations of the G7 member countries. Ambassador Cattaneo was invited to speak at the opening of the evening, together with the Canadian G7 Sherpa, Cindy Termorshuizen, to reinforce the message of continuity between the Italian G7/B7 Presidency in 2024 and the Canadian one in 2025, building on the important achievements of last year's B7 Presidency of Confindustria. The Italian business organisation is attending the B7 Summit these days in Ottawa with a delegation led by Vice President Barbara Cimmino.
Cattaneo recalled the importance that the G7 continues to hold, especially in this time of crisis, as an irreplaceable forum for coordinating the most developed democracies, and the need to continue the close coordination between this group and its business dimension, the B7, in the wake of what Confindustria did last year. Mr Cattaneo also wished the new Canadian Executive, represented by the Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne, the Minister of Industry, Mélanie Joly, and Minister Evan Solomon, who heads the newly established Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, well on their way. The new government will indeed lead Canada in a year marked by major challenges and Canada's presidency of the G7. The event was also attended by numerous members of Parliament and important representatives of Canada's institutional, political and economic world.
