COVID-19 contagion is continuing to
rise in Italy, according to the latest coronavirus monitoring
report of the Higher Health Institute (ISS) and the health
ministry , with the incidence up to 351 cases for every 100,000
inhabitants in the December 17-23 period, compared to 241 the
previous week.
The report said the Rt transmission number for the November
30-December 13 period was 1.13.
That was stable with respect to the figure given in last week's
report but still above the threshold of 1 that indicates the
epidemic is in a phase of expansion.
It said the proportion of intensive-care places occupied by
COVID sufferers had risen to 10.7%, above the alarm threshold of
10%.
The report said 12 Italian regions/autonomous provinces were
above the 10% threshold.
It said the proportion of ordinary-hospital-ward beds taken up
by coronavirus patients nationwide was 13.9%, below the alert
threshold of 15%.
It said the number of new cases not linked to the transmission
chain was up sharply.
"The number of cases with grow further," said ISS President
Silvio Brusaferro:
"We must be careful with our behaviour over the holidays".
