Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani, the leader of the centre-right Forza Italia (FI)
party, told a meeting in Pietralcina on European Christian roots
organized ahead of the congress of the European People's Party
(EPP) in Valencia in April that there is no alternative to being
pro-Europe.
Speaking about the objectives pursued by Forza Italia, a member
of the centre-right European People's Party (EPP), ahead of the
congress of Valencia, Tajani said: "We confirm our identity:
freedom, solidarity, the centrality of the person".
"We confirm our Europeanism and we call on all of the country's
moderates to also strengthen Italy's role in Europe.
"Europe is key to build peace and to be a great protagonist in
the future, towards the United States our main interlocutors, to
deal with China, India and the Russian Federation.
"We Italians need Europe to feel safer and more protected and
there are no alternatives to being pro-Europe", he said.
Speaking on the eve of political elections in Germany, Tajani
also said he is "convinced that Germany's safety lies in the
victory of the future chancellor (Friedrich) Merz" of the
Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
He added that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD)
"cannot win" and it "is against Italy, wants it to leave the
euro zone and cannot be useful for our Country".
