Banco BPM CEO Giuseppe Castagna was received Monday afternoon at Palazzo Chigi, Premier Giorgia Meloni's office said amid an ongoing takeover bid for Italy's third biggest bank BPM by its second largest, UniCredit.
The CEO of Banca Popolare di Milano left the government headquarters where he stayed for just under an hour.
At the beginning of March, UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel had also been at Palazzo Chigi for a meeting with Gaetano Caputi, chief of staff of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
