An average of two to three workplace deaths were reported last year, according to the latest figures released by the national labour accidents and occupational illness agency INAIL .
    In 2024, 797 people died on the job while 280 workers died while commuting to or from work, according to INAIL's data based on reports of fatal accidents. In both cases, reports increased compared to 2023 respectively by 0.9% for workplace victims (compared to 790 in 2023) and by 17.2% for commuters (compared to 239 in 2023).
    Meanwhile in January 45 workers were reported to have died on the job - up 36.4% compared to the 33 recorded in January last year - and 14 while commuting to and from work - up 16.7% compared to the 12 recorded at the beginning of last year - according to the latest data released by INAIL.
