President Sergio Mattarella was
admitted to Rome's Santo Spirito hospital late on Tuesday for an
operation to insert a pacemaker, his officer said, stressing
that that the surgery was planned and was no cause for concern.
The news was met with get-well-soon wishes from politicians of
all colours, including Premier Giorgia Meloni.
"My warmest wishes to President Mattarella for a speedy and full
recovery," Meloni said on social media.
"Italy awaits you soon, with the same strength and dedication of
always".
