A 54-year-old priest, Nicola
D'Onghia, was put under house arrest on Tuesday on for allegedly
causing the death of a young woman in a road accident in April
and fleeing the scene.
Fabiana Chiarappa, 32, died after hitting a wall on her
motorbike on provincial highway 172, between Turi and Putignano,
near Bari.
D'Onghia, who faces charges of vehicular homicide, said on the
night of the fatal accident that he had heard a noise coming
from the bottom of the car but had not noticed the motorbike or
the woman.
