Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti
has said that he would also like to meet Pope Leo XIV after his
compatriot, world number one Jannik Sinner, had a meeting with
the new leader of the Catholic Church on Wednesday.
Musetti also said that he was doing better after getting a bad
reputation for blaspheming on court.
"I would liked to have met the Pope, maybe there will be an
opportunity in the future," Musetti, who is from Carrara, told
reporters after beating reigning champion Alexander Zverev in
Rome on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals of the Italian Open
"It's obvious that I have this reputation (for cursing)," he
added, laughing.
"But it's a reputation that I think I've improved on.
"It's not easy for me not to express myself, whether it's a
blasphemy or not.
"We Tuscans are a bit like that.
"I was there when there was the white smoke (for Leo's election
at the conclave), then I read that he likes tennis.
"I liked the video (of Leo) with Jannik and, of course, I would
have liked to meet him".
