A supporter of Premier Giorgia
Meloni's Brothers of Italy (FdI) party allegedly wished the
leader of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) Elly Schlein
dead at a party event, according to a podcast produced by online
investigative news outlet Fanpage excerpts of which were
published on Wednesday.
The fourth episode of the podcast called 'Meloni's youth' was
reported by journalists Scarano and Selena Frasson and the
alleged incident dates back to June 2024.
The pair work for the investigative unit of Fanpage.it,
Backstair.
Fanpage had previously published fly-on-the-wall videos in which
young activists were heard voicing allegedly neo-Fascist,
neo-Nazi and antisemitic views.
The death wish was reportedly backed by the then-leader of the
Rome chapter of National Youth, FdI's youth group.
According to the report published by Fanpage.it, an FdI
supporter "who belongs to the Jewish community approached
National Youth activists at an event to discuss the ongoing
conflict in the Middle East and quickly started talking about
Italian politics, until Elly Schlein's name was mentioned".
The FdI supporter, a woman, is then quoted as saying that, "as a
Jew, I look at the attitude parties have towards Israel - Hamas'
terrorists are my enemy at the moment and the Left is defending
them".
The online paper then quoted an FdI member who was at the time
in charge of the Pinciano chapter in Rome of the party, Flaminia
Pace, as mentioning Schlein and agreeing when the FdI supporter
said: "if I could see her impaled, I would do it very
willingly".
Last June 21, Pace resigned from the European affairs commission
of the youth group's national committee.
Fanpage has said that the scene described in the podcast has
been "documented and analyzed" and that it is not "an isolated
case".
The podcast is available to Fanpage.it subscribers and the
previous episode dates back to June 2024.
