The Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori, spoke today at the press conference presenting the 'Belgrade Grand Prix 2024' to be held on 1 September. The Mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, also attended the event.
More than 60 vintage cars and motorbikes from Italy, Serbia and Bulgaria will parade around the Kalemegdan Fortress, recalling the historic First International Motorcycle and Car Race held in Belgrade on 3 September 1939, which also marked the last victory of the legendary Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari. In addition to the parade of historic vehicles, the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade will host an event entitled 'Car Art. When the car becomes a work of art', with an exhibition of the Porsche 991-996 decorated by artists Cleto Munari, Mimmo Paladino and Alessandro Mendini. Finally, Palazzo Bianco, the residence of the Karadjordjevic royal family, will host a gala evening enhanced by a performance by the National Dance Foundation under the direction of Italian choreographer Antonio Colandrea. The dancers will wear dresses made by Bencivenga Alta Sartoria and inspired by the 1930s.
The Belgrade Grand Prix is an initiative organised by Motors Heritage Consulting under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Belgrade and the Royal House Karadjordjevic and in cooperation with the City of Belgrade, the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, Auto-Moto Savez Srbije, the Serbian Federation of Historic Vehicles and the International Federation of Vintage Vehicles.
"The re-enactment of the 1939 Belgrade Grand Prix," said Ambassador Gori, "is a triple homage: to motoring, which represents a qualifying element, in its design and technology, of Made in Italy; to the friendship between Italy and Serbia, to which sport has always also contributed; and to the city of Belgrade, the European capital that is preparing for EXPO 2027.
The presentation of the 'Belgrade Grand Prix 2024' was also attended by the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade Roberto Cincotta, the Managing Director of Motor Heritage Consulting Giorgio Andrian, Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic and the Artistic Director of the Belgrade International Dance Festival Aja Jung.
