The ninth edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World kicks off in the Kingdom of Bahrain. For the occasion, the Italian Embassy in Manama, together with the Ice Agency, have organised a rich programme of events centred on quality, tradition, combating the Italian sounding phenomenon and supporting the candidature of Italian cuisine as an intangible heritage of humanity. This was announced by the embassy in a statement.
The celebrations of the 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition' will open with the event 'Pizza will make you Smile' at LuLu Hypermarket, one of the main players in the large-scale distribution in the Gulf, which will dedicate an entire area of the supermarket to Made in Italy products for the occasion, where they will interact with the public to explain how to recognise the originality of Italian products.
This will be followed by a workshop on the traditional art of the Neapolitan pizzaiuolo - in collaboration with the 'Fermento' pizzeria - to celebrate the precious Italian tradition that has become a cultural heritage of mankind - in favour of the children of the non-profit association 'Smile', committed to assisting children suffering from cancer.
The week will continue with a 'Taste of Italy' tasting at the retail outlet of the large-scale retail chain Chtaura, where an Italian cooking class will then be held for local civil society, including Italian language students from the Royal University of Women. The week will also see the visit of the councillor for Economy and Tourism of the Region of Tuscany, Leonardo Marras, who will present the tourism promotion project 'Vetrina Toscana' dedicated to the Tuscan gastronomic tradition in the event 'Flavours of Tuscany' at the restaurant of the Domain Hotel and Spa with Lucchese chef Simona Girelli. The Domain Hotel and Spa, partner of the 9th edition of Scim in Bahrain, will then host two cooking classes dedicated to two great traditional Italian dishes: tiramisu, whose secrets will be revealed by chef Francesca Bottacci, and gnocchi alla sorrentina, by starred chef Domenico Iavarone from the Grand Hotel la Favorita in Sorrento.
Chef Domenico Iavarone, assisted by Fabiano Borea, will then carry out two tastings dedicated to traditional Italian dishes from the north to the south of the peninsula, closing with the lesson 'L'Italiano in cucina' at the 'Grazia Deledda' Italian Language and Culture Centre of the Royal University of Women. Chef Francesca Bottacci, on the other hand, will present the art of Italian pastry making in 'The Italian Breakfast' event at the Sapori di Toscana restaurant. The 9th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, sponsored by major importers and distributors of Made in Italy products such as Chtaura, Lulu, Sitaf, and Venchi, sees the participation of more than 10 Italian restaurants in Bahrain, which will present dedicated menus and promotions on traditional regional Italian dishes.
the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World allows us not only to celebrate the traditions and excellence of Italian cuisine and our country's food and wine sector, but also to recall Italy's leading position in the world in terms of both exported values and certifications of origin and therefore guaranteed quality," said the Italian Ambassador in Manama, Andrea Catalano. "Italian sounding, against which our attention is maximised, is a phenomenon that particularly penalises us and affects two out of three products abroad, affecting our economy. The valorisation of true Made in Italy, synonymous with quality, excellence, health and tradition - at the basis of the 2024 edition of the Week - finds full expression in the candidature of Italian cuisine as a Unesco Intangible Heritage of Humanity and the events that the Italian Embassy is organising in Bahrain are intended to underline this".
