The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, participated in the inauguration of the exhibition 'Buone Nuove', organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Montréal for Italian Design Day 2025 at the UQAM University, in the presence of Rector Stéphane Pallage and numerous guests.
The exhibition, produced by the MAXXI Museum in Rome, focuses on women pioneers in architecture and is enriched by additional sections, curated by Canadians Louise Pelletier and Lisa Landrum, as well as a design section curated by Federica Sala. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Cattaneo explained how the exhibition invites an important reflection on the extraordinary contribution of women to post-war Italian architecture with highly prestigious figures such as Cini Boeri, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Gae Aulenti, Franca Helg and Nanda Vigo, whose modern and innovative visions opened up the sector to new perspectives. The ambassador also recalled the close cooperation between Italy and Canada in this field, as demonstrated by the realisation of emblematic architectural works in Canada by Italians, such as the Montreal Stock Exchange Tower designed by Luigi Moretti and Pier Luigi Nervi and the new Ontario Court of Justice Building designed by Renzo Piano. The exhibition will be open to the public until 6 April.
