The Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met the Bulgarian Defence Minister, Atanas Zapryanov, for a farewell greeting to review aspects of the bilateral agenda in the field of defence and security. The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Emil Eftimov.
At the beginning of the meeting,' the Embassy reported in a note, 'the bonds of friendship were reaffirmed and the excellent relations of cooperation between the two countries were emphasised, which are continually being intensified, especially in the field of joint military exercises and training activities and the exchange of experience. In particular, Minister Zapryanov expressed satisfaction with the outstanding contribution of the Republic of Italy as the Framework Nation of the NATO Multinational Battle Group in Bulgaria, also thanking the Ambassador for her commitment. In turn, Ambassador Zarra thanked the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence for the high level of bilateral military cooperation.
Afterwards, they had a fruitful exchange of views on various topics of common interest, focusing on the support to Ukraine and on the modernisation projects of the Bulgarian Army and the opportunities for the Italian and Bulgarian defence industry.
