The Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met the Minister of Economy and Industry, Petar Dilov. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Nevena Lazarova, the Head of the Minister's Cabinet, Tanya Atanasova, the Director of the "Foreign Economic Policy and International Cooperation" Directorate, Ivo Marinov, the Director of the "Europe" Department, Vesela Bayraktarova, and the President of Confindustria Bulgaria, Roberto Santorelli.
At the opening of the meeting, Ambassador Zarra and Minister Dilov agreed on the key priorities that would facilitate the inflow of Italian investments into the country, including Bulgaria's progress on the path to accession to the OECD, the importance of the completion of the Eurozone accession process, and the measures being studied by the new government to improve the business climate. In addition," the Embassy reported in a note, "there was an exchange of views on the opportunities for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Italy and Bulgaria and the deepening of the strategic partnership in various sectors, including the manufacturing and construction industry, infrastructure, road and rail transport, energy, digital and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The President of Confindustria Bulgaria Santorelli in turn illustrated the context in which Italian investors operate on Bulgarian territory, dwelling on the problems that affect not only new entrepreneurs but also those already working in the country, stemming on the one hand from the lack of manpower and on the other from the excessive bureaucratic burdens. In this context, he suggested a series of good practices for the simplification and digitalisation of tax fulfilment so as to eliminate, for example, the possibility of falsifying invoices.
