The Frigate Antonio Marceglia stopped over in the port of Manila, marking the fourth transit of an Italian Navy unit in the region in the last six months. The unit's presence between 15 and 21 March, as underlined by the Italian Embassy in Manila, confirms Italy's constant commitment in the strategic theatre of the Indo-Pacific, contributing to maritime security and strengthening relations with regional partners, in full compliance with international law.
During the stopover, various institutional, cultural, and sports activities were organised, involving the crew, members of the Philippine Armed Forces, Italian missionaries working in the country, and representatives of the local Italian community, aimed at consolidating bilateral cooperation. The dialogue between the two navies extended to the sporting sphere with a basketball match between a representative of the Philippine Navy and the crew of the Marceglia. Also on board the unit, an Industry Forum was held, which saw the participation of leading companies in the defence sector and represented an important opportunity for comparison, fostering dialogue and the development of new synergies in the industrial and technological spheres between Italy and the Philippines.
During the visit, Team Admiral Andrea Gueglio, Military Attaché Captain Giovanni Luca Marilli and the Commander of Nave Marceglia, Frigate Captain Alberto Bartolomeo, met with their counterparts from the Philippine Navy, confirming Italy's commitment to promoting stability and maritime security in the region through mutual dialogue and the sharing of fundamental values.
