The Chargé d'Affaires of the Italian Embassy in Dakar, Alessia Quartetti, together with the Senegalese Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, presented the 'Progress' social and solidarity economy programme, financed by the Italian Cooperation, in Kompentoum, in the Tambacounda region of Senegal. The programme represents a further step in the partnership between Italy and Senegal in the economic and social development of the country. Indeed, Italy, through the support of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS) to the Ministry of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy, reaffirms its commitment in favour of all those social and economic actors, cooperatives, social enterprises, economic interest groups and associations, that make up a large part of the local entrepreneurial fabric.
The project presentation was also attended by the Minister of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy, Alioune Dione, and the Minister of Professional and Technical Training and spokesperson for the Senegalese government, Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarre. Italy was represented not only by the Chargé d'Affaires Quartetti, but also by the head of the AICS office in Dakar, Giovanni Grandi.
The Senegalese authorities, through the National Development Strategy 2025-2029 of the Transformation Agenda Senegal Vision 2050, put in the foreground the financial and technical support to the actors of the social and solidarity economy, aware that the promotion of inclusive development needs the daily work of all these actors. Cooperatives, social enterprises, economic interest groups and associations, in fact, in addition to carrying out economic activities in key sectors such as agribusiness, contribute decisively to the process of consolidating social cohesion, an essential ingredient for improving the living conditions of local populations spread throughout the country.
