The Italian Ambassador to Finland, Nicola Todaro Marescotti, chaired the first meeting of the Italian honorary consular network operating in Finland on 28 March. The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss services and initiatives to assist the Italian community residing permanently or travelling in the country for study, work and tourism. During the meeting, the Honorary Consuls illustrated the main needs and challenges encountered in their respective districts, with particular attention to services for compatriots, opportunities for collaboration with local institutions, and the enhancement of the projection of Sistema Italia in the territory. Ambassador Todaro Marescotti emphasised the essential role played by the honorary consular network in guaranteeing assistance in the territory, and reiterated the importance of an ever-closer synergy between the embassy and Maeci in order to effectively respond to the needs of the Italian community. In a country the size of Finland and attracting the interest of more and more Italians, the work of honorary consuls is invaluable and measures are being studied to make their presence increasingly widespread.
In addition to the embassy staff, the meeting was attended by the Honorary Consul in Tampere, Roberto Castagno, the Honorary Consul in Turku, Francesco Sturiale, and the Honorary Vice Consuls in Vaasa, Giovanna Marroni, in Oulu, Venanzia Rizzi, and in Rovaniemi, Nuccio Mazzullo.
