The Italian government has disbursed a first 25 million euro tranche for the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy system, as part of a joint initiative with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) worth a total of 200 million euro. This was reported in a note from the Italian Embassy in Kiev.
The funds are earmarked for the state-owned company Ukrhydroenergo and will support urgent measures to restore access to energy, strengthen the electricity network, and guarantee essential services in the areas most affected by the conflict. "This first disbursement is a concrete sign of Italy's strong support for the Ukrainian energy sector, which has been severely tested by the war," said the Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa. "The reconstruction of the country also passes through light, heating, and the basic services that keep communities united and resilient".
The contribution is part of a larger EUR 125 million Italian package for energy security and the reconstruction of the country, in cooperation with Ukrainian institutions and international partners.
