Fifteen Italian start-ups at Gitex Africa, the international innovation fair that opened its doors today in Marrakech, Morocco. Until 16 April, meetings, forums, and conferences will give companies the opportunity to make themselves known and open up to the African world. Pavilion 20 of the huge marquee hosting this third edition of Gitex will talk in Italian about telecommunications, e-commerce, cybersecurity, fintech and artificial intelligence from a limelight that has made its mark on trade fairs dedicated to the digital economy and emerging technologies.
This year's event promises to be one of the most ambitious, with an attendance of 45,000 visitors and over 1,400 exhibitors representing over 130 countries. At the opening of the fair, the Italian Ambassador to Morocco, Armando Barucco, met the delegation of Italian sturtups in Marrakech, arriving from the province of Benevento, Mantua, Rome, Turin, Padua, Andria, Verona and Cagliari, among others.
Home-grown sturtups include, for example, 'finapp', a water surveillance system capable of measuring the moisture content on the ground, with innumerable implications for the agricultural and weather sectors, but also for capturing environmental risks in advance and pre-empting water leaks. Then there is 'Koala', which dreams of democratising the energy sector by connecting supply and demand with a direct sharing platform, and 'Icarus', which provides direct medical assistance, using artificial intelligence to capture medical data and share it securely between medical centres of excellence, to arrive at the best outcome for patient care.
