The national anti-doping tribunal
on Monday acquitted 26 athletes of doping charges.
The prosecution has requested two-year suspensions for all
the defendants on charges they evaded drug tests.
Among those acquitted were eight athletes referred by the
Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL): triple and long jump
champion Fabrizio Donato, long jump champ Andrew Howe, Daniele
Greco, Anna Incerti, Andrea Lalli, Daniele Meucci, Ruggero
Pertile, and Silvia Salis.
The tribunal however sent back to the prosecution testimony
by a former FIDAL employee Rita Bottiglieri on possible
violations of article three of the Sport Antidoping Norms
(NSAs), which covers assorted items such as relying on the
services of professionals who have been sanctioned for
doping-related offences.
The prosecution will evaluate whether to bring further
charges based on that testimony.
