Pope Francis had another quiet night
in Rome's Gemelli Hospital after being admitted on Friday with
breathing difficulties due to bronchitis, sources said on
Tuesday.
The Vatican said on Monday that the pope's therapy had had to
change due to the complex clinical picture of his condition.
"The results of the tests carried out in recent days and today
have demonstrated a polymicrobial respiratory tract infection
that has led to a further change in therapy", it said.
"All the tests carried out to date are indicative of a complex
clinical picture that will require an adequate hospital stay",
it added.
Nevertheless, the 88-year-old Argentine pontiff is said to be in
good spirits and is continuing with several aspects of his daily
routine.
On Monday evening, for example, he called the parish of the Holy
Family in Gaza, as he has been doing on a daily basis for
months.
