We need a world that respects
international law, President Sergio Mattarella said after talks
in Montenegro Tuesday with his Montenegrin counterpart Yakov
Milatovic, voicing the hope that Russia returns to respecting
the United Nations Charter.
"The world we would like is one that respects international
law", he said at Cettigne.
"The hope is that Russia will return to play a significant role
in respect of the sovereignty of each state, it is a hope that I
have always expressed in respect of the law and the Charter of
the United Nations".
"For three years now, Italy's position that I have always
expressed is clear, limpid, and very clear: that of respect for
international law and the sovereignty of each State.
"This firm, vigorous affirmation has been the basis of the
support that Italy has assured to Ukraine.
"A position always accompanied by the hope that Russia will
return to play its role in the international community".
"The hope is that a just peace will be achieved in Ukraine and
that it will not be fictitious or fragile."
