Prime Minister Kyriakos
Mitsotakis' nominee for the Greek presidency failed to secure
the required enhanced majority in Parliament in the third of
four rounds of voting on Thursday, according to the daily
Kathimerini.
Former parliament speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas received 160
votes in the 300-seat House, as he had in the previous two
rounds, thanks primarily to support from the ruling New
Democracy party, of which he is a member. He needs 200 votes to
be elected outright. Tasoulas is expected to win at the end of
the day, as he only needs 151 votes to secure the position in
the fourth and final round of voting next week.
