Toxic by Saule Bliuvaite has won
the Trieste Award for Best Feature Film at the 36th Trieste Film
Festival. The film tells the story of two young friends in a
rural Lithuanian village. The jury describedd it as "an
authentic and raw debut about the transition to adulthood, an
uncompromising, powerful, and genuine coming-of-age story that
explores self-esteem and the friendship between two girls, both
somehow lost and neglected by their families." This marks
Bliuvaite's first feature film, which has already earned the
Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival.
The Alpe Adria Cinema Award for Best Documentary has been
awarded to Tata by Lina Vdovîi and Radu Ciornic ; a film
commended for its exploration of intergenerational trauma,
violence, and repression in patriarchal societies, along with
modern slavery. The Tsff Corti Award went to Night of Passage by
Reza Rasouli for its "simple yet precise narrative structure,
and the masterful direction of the actors, making the emotions
portrayed so believable."
Additional awards included the Central European Initiative
Prize to Pod Wulkanem/Under the Volcano by Damian Kocur, the
Corso Salani 2025 Award to Il Canto di Alina by Ilaria
Braccialini and Federica Oriente, and the Eastern Star 2025
Award to Sergei Loznitsa. The Cinema Warrior 2025 Award was
presented to Ado Hasanović, while the Osservatorio Balcani e
Caucaso Transeuropa Award went to The Sky Above Zenica by Nanna
Frank Moller and Zlatko Pranjić. The Cineuropa Award was awarded
to Fekete Pont/Lesson Learned by Bálint Szimler, and the Giuria
Progetto Area Giovani Award to Majonezë by Giulia Grandinetti.
The SNCCI Award for Best Critic's Film 2024 went to La zona di
interesse by Jonathan Glazer, while the Best Italian Critic's
Film 2024 was awarded to Vermiglio by Maura Delpero.
"These have been nine wonderful days, with over 130 films and
hundreds of guests from all over Europe," said Monica Goti,
president of the organizing association Alpe Adria Cinema, and
Nicoletta Romeo, the festival's artistic director added:
"There's such a strong desire to be at the cinema and experience
it as a place of community, with the energy of a festival
constantly growing."
