Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani
called a meeting of foreign ministry officials on the Libyan
crisis at the Farnesina Wednesday and said that evacuations of
Italian citizens from the capital Tripoli which is being rocked
by clashes between armed militia are being evaluated.
Tajani held a meeting with the Farnesina top brass on the crisis
in Tripoli, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Italian embassy in Tripoli, a note states, is in contact
with all compatriots currently present in the capital, who for
the moment have been instructed not to leave their residences or
hotels.
A truce between the groups that clashed during the night is in
force at this time.
Neither the embassy nor the hotels were involved in the clashes.
Evacuation possibilities are being evaluated.
Tripoli airport is currently closed.
The government's priority is the safety of Italians in Libya,
said the Farnesina.
Several people were killed in overnight clashes between the
militias.
