Former Italian champions and 1992 European Cup finalists Sampdoria will play in the third tier for the first time next season after Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Juve Stabia condemned them to relegation from Serie B to Serie C.
The draw means the Genoa club, who had been in financial difficulty for several years before Singaporean businessman Joseph Tey Wei Jin recently pumped millions into it, finished in the direct relegation zone in 18th place and missed out in a place in the play-out to avoid the drop.
