Premier Giorgia Meloni has said she
would never have sought to crash the historic meeting between US
President Donald Trump and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky in St
Peter's Basilica before Pope Francis' funeral on Saturday.
Zelensky also had a four-way meeting with Trump, French
President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir
Starmer on the sidelines of the funeral.
"I would never have been there," Meloni told Tuesday's Corriere
della Sera in relation to the Trump-Zelensky meeting.
"It wasn't about us other leaders. I don't know if someone
thought they had to be there, but I didn't.
"I think it was a beautiful moment.
"From what I have been told by the protagonists, it may even
have been a turning point. Perhaps it was Pope Francis's last
gift to us all."
