The eighth meeting of the general
congregation of cardinals took place Friday morning as
pre-conclave confabs continued, said the director of the Vatican
press office, Matteo Bruni.
There were more than 180 cardinals, and among them more than 120
electors.
Some 25 cardinals addressed the gathering, said Bruni.
"The risk of counter-testimony and therefore the issue of sexual
abuse and financial scandals" were among the issues at the
center of the cardinals' interventions at the general
congregation, he said.
Some 133 cardinal electors will take part in a conclave starting
next Wednesday to elect a successor to Pope Francis, who died of
a stroke following pneumonia on Easter Monday.
