Italian New Year departures are set
to rise with some 10.6 million Italians travelling over the end
of year holiday, the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory Focus
said Saturday on data supplied by the Swg polling agency.
That is more than one million more than last year, with an
expected overall expenditure of over 3.6 billion euro.
The retail group said "the result would be even more exceptional
if even just a part of the many undecided until the last moment
were to be convinced to leave, in all likelihood betting on
staying with relatives and friends or in second homes."
It said as many as 4 out of 10 Italians choose mountain
holidays, adding "also significant is the increase in those who
choose to go abroad".
