Yesterday, at the prestigious Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery Museum in Athens, at the foot of the Acropolis, the exhibition 'DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery', promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and realised together with the Milan Polytechnic. The inauguration was attended by more than 600 people including authorities, representatives of the Greek cultural world, insiders and lovers of Italian fashion and creativity.
The exhibition, which began its journey in Abu Dhabi in 2021, arrives in Athens after having visited various capitals in different countries around the world, from South Africa to Iraq, from China to Ethiopia. Curated by Prof. Alba Cappellieri, Professor of Jewellery Design at the Milan Polytechnic and curator of the Museum of Jewellery in Vicenza, the exhibition highlights the excellence of Italian fashion jewellery and helps to promote Italian-made products globally.
The 200 jewels in the collection, representing some of the best expressions of Italian craftsmanship, will be on display in Athens until 31 December. The exhibition, illustrated by Milan Polytechnic's co-curator and researcher Beatrice Rossato, explores the history of Italian jewellery from the 1950s to the present day, and highlights how these creations are a reflection of style, values and the evolution of society. The works on display also include creations by independent stylists and designers, underlining how the quality of Italian fashion jewellery is linked above all to the creativity, craftsmanship and innovation that characterise the sector.
In his welcome greeting to the guests, Ambassador Cuculi said: 'This exhibition, strongly desired by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has been successfully touring the world for almost three years. I am really happy that we can now present this significant testimony of the Italian art of Fashion Jewellery also to the Greek public. To do so here, in a true temple of international jewellery such as the Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery Museum, and in a country like Greece, which we all consider the motherland of the very idea of beauty and harmony, is a great honour. And it is at the same time a wonderful opportunity, I believe, to strengthen the fruitful dialogue between the two very rich craft traditions of our countries'.
