On the occasion of the 9th edition of the Day of Italian Design in the World, the Italian Embassy in Paris hosted the event 'Design: designing beauty, creating value', realised in collaboration with Il Sole 24 Ore, with the support of the ICE Office in Paris and in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi. The event is also part of the 'Road to Trento 2025' initiatives, promoted abroad by Sole 24 Ore in preparation for the Trento Festival of Economics.
Now in its ninth edition, the Day of Italian Design in the World is one of the most significant moments in Italy's integrated promotion strategy. The initiatives organised by the diplomatic-consular network on the occasion of the event entitled "Inequalities. Design for a better life', are closely and synergically connected with the next Universal Exhibition at the Milan Triennale, which will take place from May to November 2025 and will be dedicated to 'Inequalities. How to mend the fractures of humanity'. In continuity with the forthcoming Triennale, the Giornata del design italiano nel mondo 2025 therefore intends to highlight the role of quality design in reducing and combating inequalities and their impact on everyday life.
Over the past eight editions, the Italian Design Day has seen the realisation of about 1,620 events involving over 600 designers, architects, entrepreneurs, academics and specialised journalists, who have promoted Italian innovation, industry and 'savoir-faire' by engaging with the creative, academic and business communities of the host countries. Undersecretary Tripodi introduced the event, highlighting how "the entire diplomatic-consular network and the Cultural Institutes around the world are committed to celebrating the ninth edition of the Day of Italian Design in the World with a mosaic of integrated promotional initiatives made possible by the contribution of the different souls of the Country System, both public and private, within the framework of the diplomacy of growth launched by the Government to support Italian exports and companies in international markets The decision to develop a reflection on the theme of inequality is aimed at "promoting a reflection on the role of design in reducing the impact of inequality, enhancing differences in a positive key, and improving the conditions of individual and collective wellbeing," continued the Undersecretary.
Ambassador D'Alessandro emphasised that Italy, the European leader in the design sector, generates the largest continental turnover in this sector and is recognised globally for its unmistakable style, capable of combining tradition, craftsmanship and innovation, the emblem of Made in Italy. "France," the Ambassador pointed out, "represents an essential market, the first, for Italian design, as the French share with us the same sensitivity for beauty, art, innovation and craftsmanship excellence. This love of the French for Italian design is also testified by the numbers as France alone absorbs 13% of all Italian exports in the sector". The event, moderated by journalist Maria Latella, provided an in-depth look at the theme through the speeches by Dr. Federico Silvestri, General Manager Media & Business Gruppo 24 ORE and Managing Director 24 ORE Eventi; Dr. Marco Sammicheli, Director of the Museum of Italian Design, Triennale Milano; Dr. Barnaba Fornasetti, Artistic Director Atelier Fornasetti; Dr. Remi de Raphélis, Director of the Museum of Italian Design, Triennale Milano; Dr. M.
