Salesian priest Alessandro Barelli was yesterday awarded the Cross of Officer of the Order of Merit Pro Lithuania by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda.
The honour was awarded to the religious in recognition of his important contribution to Lithuanian society, his spiritual guidance and his humanitarian and educational activities in the Baltic country.
Born in 1969, Barelli settled in Lithuania in 1998. After three years at the Salesian oratory in Kaunas, Barelli moved to Vilnius where, since 2012, he has been parish priest at St John Bosco Church in the Lazdynai district.
