With the presence of actor Raoul Bova, celebrations for the 22nd anniversary of the family home "Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos" - NPH / Francesca Rava Foundation - located in the city of San Pedro de Macorìs were held in the Dominican Republic last Saturday, 26 April.
The Foundation, reads a note, provides care for more than 200 children from disadvantaged and peripheral social backgrounds, offering them better life prospects in family-run homes and access to educational and health services. The facility - a kind of ideal children's city in the middle of sugar cane estates, where an idyllic atmosphere prevails and where everyone carries out a task in line with their inclinations - was realised thanks to the planning offered by Mr. Renzo Serravalle, President of the 'Casa d'Italia' Association in Santo Domingo, and can count on the active support of many volunteers and donations from both national and international sources.
A substantial extension of the land was donated years ago by the President of the Dominican Republic pro tempore, Danilo Medina, and the Archbishopric of San Pedro provides further facilities. The Marco Simoncelli Foundation of Riccione, which commemorates the tragically deceased Moto GP rider, has also provided significant support.
The facility has recently hosted a pilot experiment in teaching Italian language and culture, made possible through indirect public funding, through the UCE University, linked to UniFirenze.
Present at the ceremony were the Italian Ambassador Stefano Queirolo Palmas, the actor Raoul Bova, who is doing a period of voluntary work at the facility, the Vice President of NPH Interazionale, Eng. Michelangelo Cambiaso, the Director of NPH Dominican Republic, Kieran Rigney, the President of Co.Mi.Tes Santo Domingo, Licia Colombo, and the RAI 2 journalist Nadia Monetti.
During the day of celebrations, the children of the family home celebrated with song and dance performances, many of which were inspired by the world of Italian television entertainment, and at its end a collective lunch open to all was held.
