FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Sunday condemned the racist abuse AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan faced in his side's 3-2 win at Udinese on Saturday and called for tougher punishments for clubs whose fans commit such acts.
The referee temporarily stopped play and the French keeper stormed off the pitch after monkey chants were directed at him by some home fans.
A similar incident took place in the English second tier on Saturday, when Coventry City midfielder Kasey Palmer faced racist abuse in his team's 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
"The events that took place in Udine and Sheffield on Saturday are totally abhorrent and completely unacceptable," Infantino said.
"We have to implement an automatic forfeit for the team whose fans have committed racism and caused the match to be abandoned as well as worldwide stadium bans and criminal charges for racists".
