The first issue of the biannual
magazine 'Europa 2028', entirely dedicated to the challenges of
the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and
the prospects of European integration in the coming years, was
presented at the European Congress of Local Authorities in
Mikolajki (Poland).
The magazine's contents were illustrated by its editorial
director and general manager at the Presidency of the Council of
Ministers, Francesco Tufarelli, the member of the Europa2028
board Cristiano Zagari, and the head of the EU Observatory of
the International Studies Center (CSI) and PhD student at the
London School of Economics (LSE) Emanuele Errichiello. The
session was moderated by Jakub Romaniuk, Director of the
Economic Forum.
Tufarelli emphasized the need to revise the parameters and
timelines for spending Next Generation EU funds. "The ability to
spend these resources effectively and, above all, in their
entirety - he explained - will be decisive in guaranteeing the
economic and social cohesion of the Union in the coming years,
particularly in light of emerging global challenges."
Zagari focused on the challenges related to digital
transformation and competition with other global players in the
field of new technologies. In particular, he highlighted the
need for greater European coordination in regulating artificial
intelligence, developing digital infrastructure, and creating a
competitive technological ecosystem. "The race for global
leadership in the tech sector is happening now, - he said - and
the European Union must strengthen its role as both a regulator
and an innovator if it wants to remain competitive against the
United States and China."
Errichiello underscored the urgency of accelerating the
European integration process, particularly in foreign and
security policy. On the economic front, he stressed the pressing
need for a serious and structured debate on the creation of a
European fiscal union, a fundamental element for strengthening
economic stability, enhancing the EU's crisis response capacity,
and solidifying its position in the global arena.
