Tensions are rising in Belgrade
ahead of tomorrow's large anti-government demonstration, with
growing fears of street incidents and clashes, and with
authorities openly discussing plans for a coup attempt by dark
forces hiding behind the movement of unresting students, the
rally's organiser. Tens of thousands of people are expected at
the demonstration, who are arriving in Belgrade by all means
from all over the country, many on tractors, on bicycles and
even on foot.
Tensions have risen further in recent hours after several
private pro-government television stations broadcast alleged
audio messages describing a plan by opposition forces working
with the student movement to incite violent clashes in Serbia's
capital tomorrow in order to depose the current leadership and
install a transitional government.
