The Municipality of Nova Gorica
and the Goran Dragić Foundation today signed an agreement to
build a basketball court in the green area next to the
Slovenian-Italian border, where Transalpina Square is also
located. the project, which will symbolically unite the two
countries, is part of the Go!2025 European Capital of Culture
program.
The "borderless" basketball court will also unite two
basketball legends, Slovenian captain Goran Dragić-Gogi and one
of the greatest Italian players, Luigi Datome-Gigi. For this
reason, the court has been renamed Gogi & Gigi. The initiative
of the Goran Dragić Foundation, with sponsors and partners, aims
to bring children and youth back to play in outdoor sports
areas. It will be a "smart" court with information panels,
basketball drills, basic and advanced and behavior rules. The
panels are designed by the former Nba star of the Miami Heat
himself, and integrated with interactive content accessible via
QR codes that link back to an educational and sports platform.
Goran Dragić, speaking at the video-linked press
conference from the United States, said he was "happy that the
project of renovating the 'Step, therefore I play' courts is
progressing well and that we will renovate as many as two
facilities this year. With the idea of connecting two cities and
two nations, our project will take on a new dimension this year,
especially with the participation of Italian great Luigi Datome.
I am proud to be able to do something meaningful for Nova
Gorica, Slovenia, Italy and the European Capital of Culture. See
you in June for the inauguration."
"I am very happy to participate in this project, called Gogi
& Gigi camp," Datome echoed him, "Basketball, and sports in
general, unite people, without borders or barriers.
