The program for the inauguration
of Go!2025, the European Capital of Culture for Nova
Gorica-Gorizia, on Saturday, February 8, was officially
announced today.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. from the Gorizia train
station, marking the start of the cross-border parade towards
the public gardens. This parade will feature 1,500 performers,
including music bands and folkloric groups, Banda Gong, the Flag
Throwers of Palmanova, the Kras Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Blumari of Montefosca, the Trieste folk group Stu Ledi, the
Santa Gorizia Folk Group, the Dancers of Lucinico, the Capriva
Folk Group, the Cormons Band, and the Movartex Dance School.
Following the parade, the Italian and Slovenian police bands
will perform a joint concert, followed byringing all the church
bells in Gorizia.
The mayors of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, and Nova Gorica, Samo
Turel, will deliver speeches at 11:20 a.m. in Piazza Vittoria.
The afternoon will begin with a procession to the border at Via
San Gabriele, featuring 400 athletes, students, and artists
performing the "Walking Sculpture" with the sphere by
internationally renowned artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, titled
"The Infinite." The event will also feature groups such as Lipe
bile maškare, the Rodda Carnival costumes, and the Trieste
Drumsquod.
The official inauguration ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in
Piazza Transalpina., attended by high-level continental
authorities and the two heads of state from Italy and Slovenia.
From 7 p.m. onward, the lighting of the Gorizia Castle will
be inaugurated in Piazza Vittoria, accompanied by live music
from Remo Anzovino, Tish, and 40 Fingers. Later, Piazza
Transalpina will have a DJ set with Daddy G (Massive Attack) and
Andy Smith (Portishead).
