Entitled "From Station to
Station," it will be the first and largest event in the European
Capital of Culture program, the one scheduled for the entire day
today between Gorica and Nova Gorica. The events will be divided
into four parts. The day will begin at the Gorizia Central
station with a procession to the main square of Gorizia. From
there, the serpentine, with more than 700 artists from both
sides of the border, will continue to Nova Gorica, crossing the
border at Carinarnica on San Gabriele/Erjavčeva Street and
ending at Bevk Square, where the mayors of the two cities, Samo
Turel and Rodolfo Ziberna, will greet the public, as they will
have already done during the morning in Victory Square in
Gorizia. This will be followed at 4 p.m. by the institutional
part of the inauguration in Transalpina/Trg Evrope Square. At 6
p.m., Edvard Kardelj Square will instead host the central part
of the artistic program. This will be followed by a borderless
after party in the squares and various venues in both cities.
The concept of the opening day of the European Capital of
Culture Nova Gorica - Gorica, as well as the script and
direction of the ceremony at Europa Square and the artistic
program at Edvard Kardelj Square, were conceived by director
Neda Rusjan Bric, the creator and leader of the bid and coauthor
of the Bid Book with which the Cec title was won.
At the inauguration, in addition to the President of the
Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the President of the Republic
of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, there will be a number of
high-ranking officials from Slovenia, Italy and the European
Commission. The anthems will be performed by the joint police
bands of the two countries. The best way to follow the events at
4 p.m. at Transalpina/Trg Evrope Square will be live
broadcasting on the first network of Slovenian Television, via
web or radio, or on the big screens at Bevk Square and Victory
Square in Gorizia, since access to the square itself will be
limited due to security measures and modest size.
