Italy's car industry would have
disappeared without Stellantis, President John Elkann told
parliament Wednesday.
"If Stellantis didn't exist today, we wouldn't be here, because
the Italian car (industry) would have disappeared a long time
ago, like IT after Olivetti and chemicals after Montedison", he
said.
"In the last 20 years, the domestic market has fallen by 30%
while employment has fallen by about 20%. "This means that the
company has defended the production and employment of the
country's factories thanks to the export of Italian brands, in
addition to the Jeeps produced in Basilicata, the Dodges in
Campania, the Citroen, Opel and Peugeot vans in Abruzzo and more
recently the DS in Melfi".
