Puccini's 'Nessun Dorma' (Let No One
Sleep) aria from Turandot's call to action is apt for the EU,
President Sergo Mattarella told the 18th COEC summit with Spain
and Portugal at Coimbra Wednesday.
"The romanza we heard earlier, 'Nessun dorma' could be applied
to our Union", Mattarella said quoting Giacomo Puccini's iconic
opera , performed shortly before at the summit, "to fully convey
the sense of urgency to act that must increasingly animate
European politics.
It was a real "call to action" by the President of the Italian
Republic who spoke after ex Premier and former ECB chief Mario
Draghi's report that said the world was at breaking point over
US President Donald Trump's tariffs and could be facing
irreversible damage to the multilateral system.
