The Green transition only towards
electric cars is wrong and helps China, Premier Giorgia Meloni
told question time in the House Wednesday.
On the automotive sector "we have kept the review of the entire
regulation on light vehicles in the second half of 2025," she
told the Chamber of Deputies, responding to a question from her
ally Forza Italia (FI).
"In that context, on the basis of the non-paper promoted by
Italy and the Czech Republic, supported by 15 other governments,
we will aim to reaffirm the principle of technological
neutrality, thus opening up to all alternative fuels that can
contribute to the decarbonization of the sector.
"We continue to believe it is wrong, on an industrial level but
also on a geopolitical level, to follow only the transition
towards electric, whose supply chains are today largely
controlled by China.
"We are less and less alone in these battles," she added,
recalling that "last March we managed to insert for the first
time the principle of technological neutrality in the
conclusions of the European Council".
