Belgium centre forward Romelu Lukaku
touched down in Rome Tuesday in a Gulfstream G650 piloted by AS
Roma President Dan Friedkin who is bringing the hulking
30-year-old striker on loan to the Giallorossi from Chelsea.
A Mercedes, a van and an escort car were waiting at the airstrip
at Ciampino for Big Rom, as were a big crowd of ROma fans.
Lukaku is set to join AS Roma on loan from Chelsea after
spending much of the last two seasons on loan to Inter MIlan,
Giallorossi sources said Tuesday.
The striker, who has been intensely sought by Roma boss José
Mourinho, is moving in a deal that has been closed with the
formula of a loan for €6 million plus bonuses, while the
Giallorossi will pay a €7.5 million fee.
Antwerp born 6ft 3 in Lukaku has also played for Anderlecht,
West Brom, Everton and Man Utd.
He has scored 75 international goals in 108 appearances for his
country, a very high strike rate.
A new piece of Rome street art shows Lukaku, as the Gladiator
depicted by Russell Crowe in the eponymous 2000 Oscar winning
film by Ridley Scott.
Below Big Rom as Maximus Decimus Meridius, helmet in hand,
against a red and yellow background and smiling broadly, there
is the name "ROMELV", in Roman style lettering.
The mural, by street artist "Anonimo74", is in the trendy Monti
district of the Italian capital.
